Arnold Elmer Slee, Jr.

Arnold Elmer Slee, Jr., 67, of Wake Forest, NC, formerly of Dayton, PA, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born February 24, 1947 in Dayton, PA, the son of Arnold E. Slee, Sr. and Velma Rose (Hartman) Slee.

Arnold was born and raised in Dayton and honorably served in the US Army as a member of the first combat engineers during the Vietnam War. He spent most of his life in Home, PA and 10 years ago moved to Wake Forest, NC to be close to his grandchildren. For many years, he worked for R&P Coal as a miner operator at the Margaret 7 and 11 mines, retiring in 1990. Arnold was a life member of the Sagamore VFW Post 6555 and in his free time enjoyed working on cars and fishing. He will be best remembered for his outgoing and engaging personality and how he loved talking with anyone and everyone.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Norma (Peterman) Slee, whom he married February 7, 1969; daughters, Renee Love and husband, Mark, of Avonmore, and Brenda Stevens and husband, Mark, of Youngsville, NC; grandsons, Douglas James Love and Gregory Allen Love; brothers, Donald Slee and wife, Dora, of Shelocta, Roger Slee and wife, Cindy, of Raleigh, NC, and William Slee and wife, Donna, of Budd Lake, NJ; and sisters, Beverly Haight, of Marion Center, Glenda Mantlo and husband, Johnnie, of Aledo, TX, and Delores Auge and husband, Brian, of Punxsutawney.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Esther Jane Thompson.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Bauer-Bly Funeral Home, 125 East Main St., Dayton, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Monday, September 29, 2014 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Micah McMillan officiating.

Interment will be in Smicksburg Lutheran Cemetery, Smicksburg, PA, where military honors will be presented by the American Legion Honor Guard.
