Louis A. Schmidt

Louis A. Schmidt, 86, of Kittanning, PA passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Kittanning Care Center surrounded by his family.

He was born February 18, 1929 in Cabot, PA, the son of Andrew W. and Elma (Wetzel) Schmidt.

Louis was a lifetime resident of the area and was a member of North Buffalo Grace Brethren Church. For 29 years he worked as a train engineer for US Steel of Saxonburg until his retirement in 1984. Louis also enjoyed farming and farmed throughout his life. He was formerly an active member of the Cadogan Lions Club and served as treasurer for many years. Camping was one of his favorite pastimes and he also loved going for drives with his wife, Louise. He will be best remembered for teaching his family the value of a strong work ethic, and will be greatly missed.

He will be greatly missed by his sons, David N. Schmidt and wife, Audrey, of Kittanning, Dale M. Schmidt and wife, Nancy, of Murfreesboro, TN, and Robert L. Schmidt and wife, Kathy, of Union Grove, AL; daughters, Linda D. Wyant and husband, Randy, of Kittanning, Pamela L. Rupp and husband, Chuck, of Kittanning, Patricia A. Tarosky and husband, Mark, of Apollo, and Sandra L. Steiner and husband, Dennis, of Cowansville; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Schmidt and wife, Vivian, of Sarver, Donald Schmidt, of Natrona Heights, and James Schmidt and wife, Janice, of Sarver; and sisters, Helen Skrabak, of Everett, WA, Susan Wise, of Butler, Betty Shulik, of Saxonburg, and Dorothea Harvey, of Sarver.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 50 years, Louise Elizabeth Schmidt, whom he married April 23, 1955 and who died May 28, 2005; grandson, Harry Silvis; and sister, Sarah Crighton.

Friends and family will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday, May 1, 2015, at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning.

Additional visitation will be held from 12 PM until the time of funeral services at 1 PM on Saturday, May 2, 2015, with Pastor Robert French officiating.

Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, PA.

Contributions can be made in Louis' honor to a charity of one's choice.
